1995, Dec. 09, My first steps as official vendor

We left Mexico in 1994 when Hubby got a job in Quebec City (Canada). We had to leave our friends behind, but were very happy to be back in Canada. I brought my dolls with me of course, at this time they were fully part of my life.
in November 1995, an add in the news paper was calling for craft vendors for a show due to December of the same year. Encouraged by Hubby I registered, rented a table, and for the first time in my life, I sale my dolls (plus some packed outfits ) openly, officially to the public.  It was not a charity event, they were not friends coming to say hello and encourage or compliment me and buying a doll or 2 for  the sole purpose of sharing some taught and giving some money for charity purpose,  they were customers, real one, with all the good and bad coming with it.
Some weeks before living Quebec City, window-shopping in a mall, I discovered with delight a doll taller than Barbie. She was amazingly beautiful,  very "50th",  her body was fashion as well but with a woman idea,
I fall in love with Gene Marshall Created by Mel Odom.

My first Show was very modest indeed. It happened in a kind of Mall reorganized for this "craft event"

In this time I did not affirm yet Barbie as my first choice, lot of customers at this time were looking first for the price tag, then to the doll, so $1.00 dolls were appreciated.

Lot of cloth you see here  where only on the dolls for the pictures. the cloth were  bagged and the  numbered pics placed in and album. Customers looked through the album then chose the # they likes .

those  last dresses where sold as dressed dolls.

1992-My next step, going public

After my very modest "debut". Hubby and I moved from Edmonton, Ab. (Canada) to Mexico City DF.(Mexico)after spending some times learning my Spanish surviving basic, dolls came back quickly in mind. I had brought from Canada some naked ladies who were crying for new cloth. Fabric is fabulous in Mexico and quickly I bought a brain new sewing machine and started right away to dress my dolls.
A friend of mine invited me at her daughter' school for a charity event. I did most of my sale in Canada this way so, I didn't hesitate. I dressed some twenty dolls (Barbie and clones)and went to the event.
How very surprised I was to see how quick the sales went! and the next year I had to come back with more wedding dresses as the little girls in Mexico could not  imagine their doll without this unique and indispensable garment this time as well the table was empty at the end of the day
here are some pics of fashion made in Mexico.

1989-My first of all

When Hubby and I arrived in Edmonton, Canada, in 1989,  he was student at the University of Alberta. We were living in the student housing and were offered to use the washing machine from a common room. This room had a treasure chest a "clean clothes and toys only bin". All the moving in and out students left in it, clothes, books, toys, and on the outside the shoes and small electronics even bicycles, small furniture, or skies.
I discovered there my first doll. she was a Barbie, I cannot tell you her name, as at this time if I knew who Barbie/Ken were for having bought several of those to my kids,  I had no ideas of  neither their style, name  nor value.
I took the doll home as well as a nice (but ruined) prom dress, and started my all first, totally hand sew, One of a kind Barbie dress.
Each time I was doing a laundry I looked for dolls (they were no Barbies most of the time) and clothes to reuse the fabric.(and bought a 2nd hand sewing machine)
Of course I took pictures! very poor pictures I should say, and as they were manipulated (a lot) those pics didn't take the time very well. Anyway, it's  my blog, and I do consider it my own personal journal shared with good friends (you indeed) I think I will slip my pics between those pages.
